Tap Forms 2.1 Submitted to Apple for Approval

Hey There,

This evening I submitted Tap Forms 2.1 to Apple for approval. In addition to my previous post, here are a few other new features I managed to squeeze in:

  • More AirPrint support! You can now print a record to any AirPrint compatible printer.
  • More Dropbox integration! You can now copy a backup file to your Dropbox account. You can also download a backup from your Dropbox account and restore it in Tap Forms.
  • Much nicer email design. Tap Forms will now generate an HTML email with your form labels in bold on the left and the values nicely aligned on the right

One thing I had to take out that I promised, but wasn't working the way I wanted it to was the ability to draw over a photo in the Drawing Field screen. I'll keep working on that and get it back in for a future update. Sorry about that.

From my previous post:

  1. Drawing field updates. You can now draw circles and squares.
  2. Full database file encryption. The entire TapForms_db.sqlite file will now be encrypted. You can encrypt or decrypt your database whenever you like. Just don't forget your encryption key or you'll lose access to your database.
  3. Email Form template including linked forms and pick lists (with values)
  4. New Calculation field type. You can create your own formula based on any of the number fields in your form.
  5. You can now print photos and file attachments to any AirPrint compatible printer.
  6. Bug fixes

So we'll see how long it takes Apple to approve this update. If all goes well, you'll have it on your iDevices by the end of this week.

Thanks!

Brendan

Just updated it on my phone, it’s great. This just keeps getting better and making my job easier, thanks!

Thanks for the update, very nice. Question/comment regarding the calculated field. It seems this field will not allow itself in the formula and there is no option to get the previous or next field. For example, a simple checkbook register.

    number field: “credit”
    number field: “debit”
    calculated field: “balance”

Formula: previous “balance” + “credit” – “debit” = current “balance”

It’s my understanding Tap Forms does not allow the calculated field to be in the formula. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I “played” around with the calc field a little more and got it to work, as described above.

Here are the fields I used and the type.

    “date” – date
    “desc” – text
    “credit” – number
    “debit” – number
    “balance” – calc
Calculation field is balance, calculation type = total.

Record view shows the date and desc. Is there any way to show more than two lines of each record?

Why is this app listed on free app a day store if it’s not free???? Give one star as a thumbs down for false advertising on free app a day store..

    Hello La,

I have no control over what FreeAppADay does with their website after a promotion has ended. That promotion ended months ago.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Please fix this. I have the most current os and tap forms version released to date 09/20/11.

Just wanted to thank you for all the improvements. It’s been a while since I’ve worked on our project at work that involved evaluating your app and I’m happy to see (though I don’t know when this feature went live) that exporting csv via email is now a feature, YAY! I’m happy to say I use this everyday and hopefully my co-workers will soon adopt this wee app in the days and weeks to come. Also, kudos on working on a Mac app, I’m soooo looking forward to that.
Now, is there a place where suggestions for other features can be posted, shared, sent?

Brendan, I have an org iPhone the 8g model, until your app came along I had to drag my old Treo around also because of my customer info and log.

I have version 2.0.2 and just backed-up, worked great. my question is what is the latest version for my iphone model and will calculated fields work with it. The only thing I use my iPhone for is the Phone, Tap Forms, the Camera and rarely Messages, Maps (for traffic), and as a calculator and am reluctant to upgrade to the latest although I know it is coming.

  9. admin says:

    Hello James,

Tap Forms 2.1.12 is the latest version. I just submitted version 2.1.13, so that will be the latest version shortly. I’m pretty sure I added calculated fields in the 2.1.x timeline. I do not believe you will be able to upgrade to the latest version because it requires iOS version 4.0. I’m not sure if the original iPhone 8 GB model can use that OS version.

    Thanks,

    Brendan
