Since updating to version 2.0, the app will no longer run on my iPod Touch.

  2. John says:

App stopped working on iPhone 4. Stops at TapForms splash screen and doesn’t load any further. The last update sure was buggy.

  3. admin says:

That’s due to an issue with the auto-lock function. Just switch it to Immediate and that’ll correct that issue. I am working on a fix for it.

  4. Dearanya says:

1:While tring to export data out via email, it just stays at ‘Preparing email’ for a long time and nothing happens. Pls fix it.
    (ver.2.01+English interface+Chinese tradition Data).
2: I still can’t figure out how to have Calculaton function work correctly. When I choose ‘Total’ , then I suppose it should be Form C=Form A +Form B, isn’t it? Pls help explain to me, thanks.

  5. admin says:

    Hello Dearanya,

Could you please try setting the file encoding on the Import & Export settings screen? Change it maybe to Windows Latin 1 if you’re on Windows or Mac OS Roman if you’re on Mac. Then try emailing the records again.

You need to select a Number field type in order for the aggregate calculation function to work. You’ll see the result at the bottom of the record list view. For example, if you had a Number field called cost and you chose Total on the Calculation settings screen, you’d see “Total (Cost): $99.99” at the bottom of the list view. Of course the value would be whatever that field totalled to.

    Thanks!

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,

Thanks for Tap Forms in iPad. A problem with the Apple Wireless Keyboard (and I assume other KBs as well). When tabbing from field to field after entering data Tap Forms HD loses the newly entered value in the field you are leaving. This renders things a bit lame for those of us who have loads of data to enter! Hate having to move my hand from keyboard to screen just to get to another field. It’s wearing me out!

Hope all is well with you and thank you again,

    Kel

  7. Brendan says:

    Hello Kel,

I need to get myself a keyboard for my iPad so I can see what the problem is with that.

Sorry for the annoyance with that.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  8. Kel says:

No worries and thanks for the reply.

As an aside, I’m crashing every five or six records as I’m entering them. No data loss (thanks for that robustness!).

Basically it’s a VERY simple four field database with one short selection list and 3 text fields. I enter five or six records fine and on hitting the + icon the app quits. I relaunch with a blank record ready for me to fill out and continue. I can try to isolate it from the keyboard if that would help you but am a wee bit busy atm.

It’s a minor annoyance but one I thought you should be aware of.

    Cheers.

  9. Brendan says:

    Hello Kel,

Thanks for the bug report. If you could email me a crash log that would be very helpful.

To get your crash logs from your iPad, you must first sync with iTunes, then find your Tap Forms HD crash logs from here:

    Mac OS X : ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/

    Thanks!

    Brendan

  10. Kel says:

Wouldn’t you know it. I’ve yet to reproduce the crash that reproduced consistently every five or six records before. I will send you my crash log as it stands now, was just hoping to get something a little more immediate.

  11. Leon says:

Brendan, thank you for the awesome app. I use it on iPhone and, as of few days ago, on ipad.

When I import form (from dropbox) to app for iPhone there is always an option for text field to either type text, or link it to pick list. For some reason, when i import the same form to app for iPad, the text field doesn’t have the pick list option. I have to manually configure it to chose pick list. Am I doing something wrong here? Once again, thanks for the app and looking forward to the solution.

  12. Raleigh says:

    Hi Brendan,

I was wondering when the next update coming for the HD (ipad version). The reason why I’m asking is that I have TAP for my iPhone and one of my friends has the HD on his iPad. I have yet to purchase the HD yet because of all the crashes he is experiencing when using it on his iPad 2.

I’m in the process of creating multiple inventory listings (i.e., wine, movies and coins) but hesitant to purchase the HD and start the project knowing there are bugs to be fixed.

FYI, I haven’t had such crashes on my iPhone. At least not the same constant crashes my friend experience with HD on his iPad 2.

I would appreciate a reply. Thanks

  13. admin says:

    Hello Raleigh,

Most of the crashes I’ve heard about are due to running the HD version in portrait mode. Can you ask your friend if he has the same issues in landscape mode? I’ve made a bunch of changes in that area for the next update which will stop those crashes. I am hoping to get the update out very soon, within the next few days if all goes well.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  14. Raleigh says:

    Good morning Brendan,

The answer to your query is YES. He made several attempt on using TAP in portrait mode and it crashed 8x out of ten. But, he said it also crashed in landscape mode but only once. He did, however, only tried the landscape mode 5 times.

I read your announcement about the upcoming updated version of HD. I’ll go ahead and purchase TAP HD today as I have a lot to work on. Plus, I know I can count on your update and support as always.

FYI, I’m using the iPhone version on my iPad 2 and have yet to experience any crashes whatsoever.

I had sent you a “feature” request which is extremely important for insurance purposes. Grateful if you could include this with the upcoming update. I’m a scientist and not a programmer, hence I don’t have a clue as to how tedious it is to include my feature request.

And last but not least, of all the countless apps I have, TAP gets “tapped” the most on the daily basis. TAP has given me ORDER in my daily chaotic life. I often look back as to how I got by before TAP.

I sincerely thank you for continuously “breathing life” to this remarkable, underrated app.

  15. admin says:

    Hello Raleigh,

I know the iPhone geo tags photos when you take a photo. I believe that information is stored in the EXIF data for the photo. I’m not sure if the same goes for when a 3rd party app uses the camera to take a photo. I would expect so. However, you could also add a Location field to your form. When you edit the location field for the first time, Tap Forms geo locates you and then you can save that value. So in that way you should be able to accomplish what you want I believe.

Thanks for a being a loyal user! I will get my iPad version out asap. I’m just fixing up some things with the drawing field type.

    Thanks!

    Brendan

  16. Jon says:

This app is badass, and a time saver.

I got my 65 year old business partner hooked, and from this point forward, all our sales people will be getting an iPad with this app preinstalled.

    Thanks!

  17. Alan Lambert says:

OK I need only one more function in the calculation formulas unless it is there and I am missing it…..I need “IF”…”Then” to preform either one calculation or a different calculation depending on a Check Mark field.

Any help would be appreciated and a new function would be awesome.

  18. admin says:

    Hello Alan,

There’s no if/then function in the calculation formula. That’s a bit out of scope for the foreseeable future. The next update I want to do to the calculation field is to support some mathematical functions, such as square root, etc. I also want to enhance the editing screen so you can edit the formula freeform rather than just having Tap Forms append values to the end of the formula. Adding some sort of if/then conditions would have to come later. But at the moment I’m busy making Tap Forms Mac.

    Thanks!

    Brendan
