Tap Forms HD Sneaky Peak!

Hey there,

Long time no chat. Anyway, just thought I'd throw up a sneak peak at a couple of the screens in Tap Forms HD:

There you have it!

Tap Forms HD coming to an App Store near you.

I still have a bunch of work to do on it so it's not ready yet, but I thought you'd probably waited long enough to get a glimpse of this awesome app. It's taken me a long time to get it right. I know you're going to enjoy using it as much as I have enjoyed building it.

Thanks!

Brendan

Can’t wait to get this app from you to my iPad. Most used app for me!!!

    Any ETA yet?…

  6. admin says:

    Hello Eugene,

No, I don’t have an ETA, but I’m working as fast as I can. My goal is to have it out before Apple freezes the store for Christmas, but I make no guarantees that I can get it done by then. I’m close though!

    Thanks!

    Brendan

One other question: did I hear somewhere that you’re working to allow for backups/restores via Dropbox? My main reason for the question is, if I have or will have the ability (with minimal steps (as in prefer not to have to do csv file conversions)) to easily sync databases from my iPod and iPad, I’ll probably spend the money on both versions… thanks for the update too.

  8. Ted says:

I second Eugene’s question. I was specifically looking for an iPad database manager that synced to Dropbox, and when I couldn’t find that, just looked for iPad database apps in general. Tap Forms was far and away the best-looking and easiest-to-use database on the app store. Iwas about to go ahead and buy the iPhone version, but think I’ll hold off for the iPad app. Would LOVE to see Dropbox integration! That would make the program so much easier to use for me (and I imagine others, perhaps?) as I access my data in a number of ways, and programs like DocsToGo and Index Card that allow document syncing to Dropbox have become INVALUABLE to me.

Love your stuff! Keep up the good work!

  9. Ted says:

    Oh, and landscape typing. ;)

  10. admin says:

Hello Eugene and Ted. I do have Dropbox integration already, but just for copying files to/from Dropbox. I haven’t implemented backup or sync to Dropbox. But it’s something I wouldn’t mind tackling at some point. But I have higher priority things to work on at the moment.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  11. admin says:

Ted, you can use landscape typing on the Notes field.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  12. Eugene says:

Brendan, thanks for the response. One follow-up: in the meantime until Dropbox sync happens some day, how involved would the process be to use the Dropbox import/export csv option as a method to ‘sync’ databases?

  13. Brendan says:

    Hello Eugene,

Well, you would have to export each of your forms as a CSV file, then import them to the other computer. If you make sure you turn on the “Export Record ID” function on the Import & Export Settings screen for the Exports Settings area, Tap Forms will export the unique record ID for each row in your CSV file. When you import that file to another device, Tap Forms will perform an update on the record if it can find a row with the specified record ID. If not, it will insert a row. It will not perform any deletes during the import process. So it’s not a true sync operation.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  14. Brendan says:

And by “other computer”, I meant “other iDevice” :-)

  15. Eugene says:

Okay, sounds like that’ll work for now. Here’s hoping for true Dropbox sync someday!… thx

Looking forward to Tapforms HD, will it be backwards compatible to the iPhone version? I’d like to be able to enter data via iPad but have it available on iPhone too. Don’t expect the same layout obviously, but some sort of functionality would be great.

  17. admin says:

    Hello Andy,

Yes, the database formats are identical. As long as you use the database file in a newer version of the app. Tap Forms performs an upgrade whenever I add new columns or tables to the database. But older versions of the app wouldn’t be able to work properly with newer versions of the database. So you’d be able to do a backup of the database from Tap Forms for iPhone and restore it to Tap Forms HD for iPad.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

I cannot wait. Bento just doesn’t quite cut it. Pics look sweet.

When I customized a form, I used customized pick lists for each question – when I try to beam the form to another iPad, the questions will beam but not the pick lists – how come? What do I need to do to get this to beam the pick lists too?
