Howdy- Quick question(s). I have encrypt database selected in preferences. Does this mean the entire tapforms data file is encrypted?

Also, is the encryption still 256?

    Thanks!

Yes on both questions. But now in Tap Forms 5 when you encrypt, also the photos and file attachments are encrypted. Bonus!

Excellent. This is what I though, but wanted to make certain. Thanks Brendan.

Howdy Brendan- Forgot to ask. If I add a file attachment field, are the files that I add to the records also secure or is this just a reference to the file that is on the computer? I’d like to be able to store secure documents within TF and not keep a local copy.

    Thanks!

If you use the Alias function to attach your file, those won’t be encrypted. Tap Forms will maintain just a pointer to the file. If you use the + button to attach a file, then a copy of the file is stored and encrypted into the Tap Forms database.

If you want to verify the encryption, right-click in the Finder on a .tapforms document, then navigate into the “db-” folder, then inside that there’s an “attachments” folder. Each of the files you attach will have random filenames with a .blob attachment. You could try and open one of them up in a text edit app such as TextWrangler and see what they look like. If it’s encrypted, it should all be illegible. If you see real words here and there it means the file is most likely not encrypted.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Thank you Brendan and sorry for the late reply. This is what I thought, but wanted to make sure.

Great product and amazingly flexible as always!
