I am using Tap Forms 4.0.7 with photos with Export media on. It seems photos only get properly handled in exports and in backups/ restores when Sync Service is set to iCloud and Enable Sync is turned on. This SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE. Photos should get exported when Sync is turned off as well as when set to drop box as they did in earlier versions of tap forms. This is most likely a bug that was introduced around November of last year.

If Sync Service is set to anything other than iCloud and Enable Sync is not turned on and you try to save a photo, Tap Forms crashs.

The crashing could possibly be related to the size of the backup. How big is the backup file?

I just tested with Dropbox sync service selected, but sync OFF. No crash. But my backup file size was only 241 MB on my iPhone 7.

The size is only 4.1 MB but just to be clear, the crash occurs not when creating the backup or restoring from the backup but when from within a record after taking a photo with the camera and hitting ‘Use Photo’ in an attempt to use that photo with those sync settings.

I believe this is related to why sync settings have to be set to iCloud and Sync Enabled in order for Photos to be properly exported and thus backedup/restored in Tap forms 4.0

What exactly happens when setting sync settings to icloud and enabling sync? Do all photos stored on the device get uploaded to the cloud in that case or just the ones associated with Tap Forms?

    Hi Anthony,

Oh, sorry for my misunderstanding that it was when you took a photo it was crashing. I must have missed seeing that part. Well that’s strange. It shouldn’t matter if you have sync enabled or not.

When you take a photo within Tap Forms and you have iCloud sync enabled, Tap Forms will store that photo in a folder which is currently pointing to your iCloud Drive folder. If you were to look in iCloud Drive you would see a Tap Forms folder there with a folder inside called Photos. That’s where the photos get stored.

It’s just the photos in Tap Forms that get stored in iCloud. Not all of your photos on your device.

I would recommend perhaps deleting and re-installing Tap Forms because it shouldn’t be necessary to have sync enabled just to take a photo.
