Tap Forms HD Submitted to Apple for Review

Hey there,

I'm very excited to announce the imminent release of Tap Forms HD for iPad!

Tonight I finally submitted Tap Forms HD for iPad to Apple for approval. It's currently waiting for review and I hope that it can be approved before Christmas. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I delayed the release so that I could make it as bug-free as possible. Kudos and thanks to my team of beta testers who volunteered to test the app for me.

I thought I'd post a few more screenshots for you to see what the release version will look like:

I know what your first question will be. Is Tap Forms HD a universal binary that runs on both the iPhone and iPad? The quick answer to that is no. So why did I build it as a separate application? Well, I took a look at my competition and many of them have released separate iPhone and iPad versions of their apps. For example, Bento for iPhone and Bento for iPad.

That's not the only reason however. I think you'll agree with me that having a native iPad optimized user experience is a fantastic thing to have. Many apps that are released as universal binaries are simply tweaked a little to make them run on the iPad. They don't go that extra mile to make it a full iPad user experience. I've spent the past 7 months developing Tap Forms HD to make it a real iPad application, not just a quick port to make things bigger. I think you'll agree from the screenshots above that I've succeeded in this area.

So please stay tuned and I'll let you know when Tap Forms HD for iPad gets finally approved.

Oh, and one more bit of good news. I will be having a special time limited introductory 50% off "upgrade" price to give you a chance at getting Tap Forms HD for a significant discount!

Thanks!

Brendan

Hi there, I’m in the market for a cross-device database app, and was wondering if you could comment on whether the iPad build will be able to sync with the iPhone build. Looks like a great app!

    Hi Tom,

There is a beam record function which can take a single record and beam it from one device to the other. It doesn’t matter what the device type is in either direction. It does a partial sync of the record. What I mean by that is, it will add a field to the form on the target device, but it will not delete any fields on the target device. The values in the fields will also be synced. Except it does not transfer photos or audio files. That’s an area of the application I need to improve.

Alternatively, you will be able to transfer the TapForms_db.sqlite database file between devices and that will let both devices share the exact same information. But it’s not a sync. It does let you use the same database on both versions as the file formats are the same (as long as you’re running the same version of the app or newer on the target device). That is, you can go up in versions and use the same database file, but not down.

I will be releasing an iPhone update to bring it up to feature parity with the iPad version soon.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Thanks fot the reply :)

Sounds interesting. Could I, in theory, keep a copy of the sqlite file in a specific dropbox folder, and import/export it as needed?

Just bought the iPhone build to get accustomed to it. Very nice work mate!

    Hello Tom,

You would need to use iTunes File Sharing to copy it to the iPhone & iPad. I will be adding Dropbox support to the backup and restore function soon so you would theoretically be able to do that. But certainly if you use your Desktop as a mediator, you can store your SQLite file on Dropbox and transfer it to your desktop when needed and then to your device via iTunes File Sharing.

Thanks for picking up the iPhone build! I have an update coming out soon which will bring it feature parity with the iPad version (sans the awesomely huge real estate on the iPad version of course).

    Hi.

Just buyed the iPad Version and wondered why my suggestion to delete an already linked contact is still not implemented? I’m waiting for that since the first iPhone version. Clicking the toolbox button crashes the app several times.

    I love tap form, but….

    Regards,
    Marc

  10. admin says:

    Hello Marc,

This is implemented now. If you’ve linked a contact, you can tap on the contact row to bring up the menu again. One of the options is “Remove Contact”. That will remove the linked contact from the record. It will not delete the contact in the address book, just remove it from the record.

I haven’t heard of any crashes when tapping on the Toolbox button.

Is there any chance you can tell me a bit about your iPad? Which iOS are you using? Is it possible for you to send me a crash log?

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  11. Marc says:

    Hi.

Oh…I’m sorry, I didn’t noticed this new feature. Thank you for implementing. I’ll take a look on how to reproduce the bug and post it.

    I wish you a merry x-mas.

    Regards,
    Marc
