Passcode not working in Tap Forms? Read this…

A few customers have had some issues after upgrading to Tap Forms 1.7 with their passcode not working anymore. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce this issue in development, but I do have a workaround which will get you back in.

The only way to get to your data again is to sync your iPhone with iTunes and make sure it does a backup, then use a program called iPhone Backup Extractor if you're on a Mac to get access to your Tap Forms Database. Then you'll have to delete Tap Forms from your phone, download it again from iTunes (for free).

You can download iPhone Backup Extractor from http://supercrazyawesome.com

If you're on a PC, you can get a similar program from here, but I have no experience with it:

When you've extracted your Tap Forms backup from itunes, look for a file called TapForms_db.sqlite. That's where all your data is contained.

You will also need SyncDocs available from http://syncdocs.sourceforge.net

Basically restoring your database involves backing up the default Tap Forms database from within Tap Forms using the SyncDocs application from the link above. The backups are time stamped, so what you'll see is a folder called SyncDocs, then the timestamp, then "TapForms".

When you're running the SyncDocs application on your Mac or PC there's a button that says "Show Downloads" which will take you to your backups.

When the backup is complete, there will be a folder inside the TapForms folder called "Documents". Inside that is the TapForms_db.sqlite file. What you want to do is take the copy of the TapForms_db.sqlite file that you extracted from your iTunes backup using iPhone Backup Extractor and then copy it over the one that SyncDocs just created in the Documents folder. Then back in Tap Forms you can do a restore and then you'll have all your data back.

Sorry for the trouble this has caused a few customers. There have been thousands of updates to the 1.7 release and so far only a handful of customers have had this issue, so I don't believe it's a widespread problem. Hopefully not at least.

If you have any troubles with this, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'd be happy to help you out. You can always send an email to support@tapforms.com anytime.

Thanks,

Brendan
